Romania 2010
by Vlad Cioflec - 8/12/2010 14h02Dear friends,
I`ve noticed things were a little bit slow here, so I decided to show you the highlights of my year. I`ll write about each month separatley, if that`s ok with you.
January
I`ve taken a vow some time ago that I will go fieldherping every month of the year, to fight the winter depression. Even if i`m not finding stuff, at least i`m still out there herping, enjoying the thrill of the chase.
I found European Pond Terrapins and Sand Lizard. Awesome!

February
The last month of winter delivered a Great Crested Newt and a Green Toad. Sweet!

March
This is the right time to go flipping. It`s also a time to chase poachers of my local patch…

April
One of the best months for herping! Believe it or not I got two lifers, Danube Crested Newt and Eastern Spadefoot Toad!

May
Lots of herptrips this month, the snakes were all around, but my favorite find was the Sand Lizard. I really think this is the best picture I ever took.

June
As you all know, I got something even cooler than the two lifers of spring:

July
Herps are kinda hard to find now; time to photograph some inverts:

August
Like the last couple of years, we visited Modavia to do some birding. Also managed to make a huge range extension for the endangered Common Spadefoot.

Septebmer
Focused on feathered reptiles again, and I added another long awaited bird to my lifelist - the Red-necked Grebe.

October
The cold rains didn`t help me with the autumn birds surveys, but they made it perfect for flipping again:

November
Managed to photograph one last herp, a Marsh Frog. :)

December
Mission accomplished!
Last herp of the year was a Read Eared Slider, right after a big freeze. Not much, but it`s still a winter herp.
Now i`ll focus on spending some quality time with my family; and a little birding now and then when the weather will allow.

Thanks for reading,
Vlad
