Young lacertids from Croatia: P. melisellensis?
by Henrik Bringsoe - 19/8/2010 18h32For the first time I was in southwestern Croatia in October 2009. Our original plan was to go there in September, however, due to my wife's other activities we had to postpone it with some weeks.
Apparently quite a number of reptiles had already entered their hibernation. That also applied to many lizards, but I found some juveniles. I think it is normal that they may remain active somewhat longer in the autumn than adults. Since I do not have experience with these species of Croatia, I was a bit uncertain about their identity. I will here present some juvenile. I believe they are all Podarcis melisellensis but I would be happy to have your confirmation.
First 4 shots (in total 3 individuals) from 6 October, the mountains north of Paklenica and Starigrad:

One juvenile defaecating:

The one now basking:

Then 2 phots of only adult P. melisellensis (male) which we saw on our trip, from 7 October, the Paklenica National Park:

3 young (4 photos) from Vranjaca jama:

Eventually 1 photo of a juvenile from Roski Slap, 12 October:

Do you agree that they are all P. melisellensis?
Kind regards,
Henrik Bringsøe
