Vacation in Finland
by Georg Fagerlund - 31/7/2010 12h44Want to share a few pictures from a recent vacation in Finland. As everybody probably know there ain't too many species of reptiles and amphibians to be found in the cold north, but here's few.
found my first Grass snake (Natrix natrix) when I went to look for lizards behind an old concrete block, the same day when me and my wife arrived to my inlaws place in Parainen

This fellow was hiding also nearby

(Zootoca vivipara)
The same evening had a chance to follow the great "exodus" of small baby Common toads (Bufo bufo) which were leaving their birth pond

Here's one of the guys who attakced my inlaws garden so that they could't cut the grass.

This Adder (Vipera berus) were surpriced a couple of days later in a logging area behind where my inlaws live.

...and also one Viviparous lizard (Zootoca vivipara) were found later near by

Just to find more snakes we headed to the archipelago and one small island where we saw grass snakes last year.
First sign of Natrix natrix

Sheded skins where found allover the island.
Basking in the sun...

Hiding in the rocks...

And escaping to the sea

And finally one Zootoca vivipara basking in the midst of strawberries in the garden...

As a conclusion... I feel it was quite a nice vacation with lots of nice herps.
