Ilias, do you remember the restaurants at Kournas Lake (Crete), having Mauremys in some cages? Is that also illegal - does Greek law protect all herps? I'm sure you told me this already, but I seem to keep forgetting that kind of stuff...

In Belgium, especially species that are on annex 2 of the Habitats Directive can be "used" as tools to get things done, but I would imagine that the impact of the directive differs according to national awareness/willingness?

In this regard, I seem to recall an incident where the EU environment commissioner (at that time Stavros Dimas from Greece) had issued a permit to some private party to collect fixed numbers of about all the most rare and endangered Greek herps. "Funny" detail was that it allowed to catch about twice as many African chameleons as the size of the Greek population (at that time).

The Series Has Become Too Classic
Love it or hate it, HBO’s hit vampire series True Blood shows no signs of slowing down – especially now that show creator Alan Ball announced today that he has just signed a new contract with HBO for another season.
Speaking at the True Blood panel for the summer Television Critics Association press tour, Ball laid to rest the rumors that fans have been spreading about True Blood coming to an end. Following True Blood season 2’s premiere, HBO quickly renewed the series for a third and fourth season. With that move, fans began to speculate whether or not season 4 would be his last.
HBO has renewed the hit show TRUE BLOOD for a 12-episode fifth season, it was announced today by Michael Lombardo, president, HBO Programming. Created by Alan Ball, the series will begin production of new episodes later this year in Los Angeles, with debut set for summer 2012.
