It is indeed nice to see these. Yesterday, in a pond in a park in the centre of Bath, UK, I saw a female Rana Temporaria with five males grasping her tight around the neck and waist. I never know what to do when I see that. There's a danger of the female being hurt or even killed, I think, but an attempt to remove some of the males would risk injuring them. I picked up the ball of frogs, and one male dropped off immediately, but the others held on, and I returned the whole lot to the pond. One of the female's back legs seemed to be broken and suspiciously red, so it didn't look good.

Some movment here in London,too!Today I saw 4-5 newts in the ponds I regulary visit but the majority are still on land!

There were also these R.temporaria eggs.Only this ball from 4 good sized ponds and no frogs around!!!

It seems that animals further north are getting active sooner than here!? Or it may have something to do with the fact that London isn't very good herping area and that the few spots that amphibians breed at, have quite high human activity with dogs and all!It's just a guess..I don't really know! 

No one any Rana arvalis sightings? Will try to see some blue ones again, and looks like it will happen within this and the next 7 days or so, I'm guessing. 

Hundreds of frogs and palmate newts out at my local pond last night, managed to save well over 150 from the road beside the pond.

And today saw my first 2010 reptile, a female Zootoca vivipara :-) 

Today a lot of Rana arvalis on the Veluwe, a lot of them where migrating towards the water, this weekend I'm going to pay another visit, would love to see some blue moorfrogs sometime. Also the first adders where out and some common toads and newts. 

Going to see the blue boys tomorrow myself... 

Big movement of amphibians last night in South Yorkshire Common frog, Palmate newt but mainly Common Toad, they were taking some heavy casualties on the roads, below are some of the lucky ones i rescued.

Well done Carl. I must have saved over 200 frogs these past few days and about 50 newts. They just keep appearing when I think I have shifted the last dozen or so. The winter big freeze hasn't had much of a bad affect on amphibians here. In fact there seems to be even more than usual!
