Make the Adder Count - UK
by Jon Cranfield - 27/12/2009 18h39Hi there
I would like to encourage people to come forward to provide survey data on adder populations that they have been studying. In the UK we have a small project which is called Make the Adder Count. This project started in 2005 and it has a survey methodology based on visual encounter surveys during the spring emergence period.
The method uses three (minimum) or more survey counts carried out in ideal weather conditions at known adder hibernacula. The idea is to provide peak survey counts in the spring to try and detect changes in status from year to year and across the country.
I would be pleased to hear from anyone who would like to provide such data - I would also like to try and establish a project across European countries for Vipera berus and other species.
