On fieldsticks and snakehooks
by Vlad Cioflec - 7/10/2009 12h18Herpers use a variety of tools in the field (and there`s lots to talk about them too :) ) , but for me none has proven as versatile over the years as the Snake Stick.
As you probably know, there are two main categories: Snake Hooks and Field Hooks.
The first are used for controlling hot herps (or very bitey big ones) when tailing them. They are not designed to be used as hiking poles or to endure other rough treatments ;) , as they tend to be quite flimsy.

Field Hooks are sturdy tools designed to help you turn over AC and rocks (flipping). They can pretty much endure anything.

For years fieldherpers had to carry tongs, snahehooks and fieldsticks. But in recent times snake tongs have fallen out of grace due to the damage they may inflict on the ribs if handled improperly. And I agree.
So this leaves us with to two types of tools. Still a bit much if you ask me. ;)
